After suffering a blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday, the Golden State Warriors picked up where they left off early against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. The Spurs jumped on the Warriors early, sprinting to a 14-point lead in the opening frame. With the Spurs stretching their lead to as many as 16 points, the Warriors looked to be on their way to a second straight rough loss on the second leg of a back-to-back.
Yet, sharp shooting from Moses Moody and Jimmy Butler kept the Warriors in the game. After cutting San Antonio’s advantage down to seven at halftime, Steph Curry took over in the third quarter.
Curry exploded for 22 points with three made 3-pointers in the third quarter alone to help erase San Antonio’s lead. Curry added another nine points in the fourth quarter to outduel a triple-double performance from Victor Wembanyama.
Despite 31 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists from Wembanyama, Curry answered with 46 points to lead Golden State to an impressive comeback victory in San Antonio, 125-120.
Butler added 28 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field with a season-high five made 3-pointers. After earning a start on Wednesday, Moody tacked on 19 points with five made triples of his own.
Golden State’s comeback win in San Antonio helped boost their record back to over .500 at 7-6 on the season.
The Warriors will now get Thursday off before suiting back up in San Antonio for a rematch against the Spurs on Friday.
