The Washington Wizards announced on Friday that they assigned rookie forward Will Riley to the Capital City Go-Go, their affiliate in the G League.
Riley has played sparingly to begin the season with the Wizards, totaling just 63 minutes across nine appearances for coach Brian Keefe. He logged 3 1/2 minutes in their last contest on Wednesday after sitting out altogether in the previous two games.
The 21st pick in the draft will have the chance to log extended playing time with the Go-Go in upcoming road matchups against the College Park Skyhawks on Friday and Sunday. He is set to become the sixth 2025 first-round pick to suit up in the G League this year.
Riley was the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year last season at Illinois, averaging 12.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists on 43.2% shooting from the field as a freshman. He made nine starts, finishing third on the team in scoring after registering six 20-point performances.
The Canadian logged three preseason appearances with the Wizards, averaging 8.3 points, two assists and 1.7 rebounds on 44.4% shooting from the field. He registered his besting out on Oct. 13 with 17 points, two rebounds and two assists in a win over the New York Knicks.
Riley was highly touted out of college because of his ability as a two-way player who can guard multiple positions. He drew praise in training camp thanks to his energy and intensity on the court, and he will be looking to showcase those attributes in the G League.
