Fans of the Boston Celtics were understandably frustrated by the slump from beyond the arc afflicting several players on their favorite team to start the 2025-26 NBA season, with point guard Derrick White being affected perhaps more than anyone else on the roster. But if those fans thought they were struggling to watch the ball not go through the hoop, it was nothing compared to what White himself was going through.
“Sometimes it’s tough because everybody’s talking to you about it,” said the Colorado native. “Everybody’s like, ‘Keep trying, keep shooting, keep believing in you.’ You just hear that from every person, so you sometimes want to just give them some space, let him process it his own way.”
“Everybody has their own way of getting through slumps and getting through tough times,” added White.
As for how he dealt with it, the Colorado – Boulder alum said “I think I’ve tried almost everything. Just trying a little bit of everything, trying to break out of it.”
And against the Memphis Grizzlies, he appeared to break out of it, going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 6-of-11 overall. Whether he slips back in or puts it all behind him will become clear soon enough, but at least for now, things are looking up (and going in) for Derrick White again.
