Portland Trail Blazers vs Phoenix Suns Preview

The Portland Trail Blazers have wrapped up a three-game road trip, during which they recorded one win and two losses. They’ve won only one of their last five games, putting them at 6–7 on the season. In their most recent outing, they fell to the Dallas Mavericks 138–133 in overtime. Before that, they suffered a heavy defeat to the Houston Rockets (140–116), while their lone win came against the struggling New Orleans Pelicans, 125–117.

The Portland Trail Blazers have been in a mild slump recently, which is hardly surprising given the number of injuries they’re dealing with. The main reason for their relatively solid start to the season has been the outstanding play of Deni Avdija. The talented Israeli forward is finally showcasing his full potential, frequently surpassing the 30-point mark while consistently contributing through rebounds and assists. However, another young Blazer has been stepping up as of late. Shaedon Sharpe has delivered two phenomenal performances in his last three games, scoring 35 points in the win over the New Orleans Pelicans and 36 in the loss to the Dallas Mavericks — his best outputs of the season. The young wing clearly appears poised for a breakout year. The Trail Blazers plays at the second-fastest pace in the league, so it’s no surprise they rank seventh in points per game. Their offense is 13th in offensive rating, while the defense sits 21st. They are the second-best offensive rebounding team in the NBA, but rank near the bottom in defensive rebounding. As their injured players return, it’s very likely the Trail Blazers will improve both their play and results. Until then, they’ll need to be more careful with shot selection, as they sit near the bottom of the league in both three-point percentage and overall field-goal percentage.

The Phoenix Suns have been one of this season’s most pleasant surprises in the NBA. In their most recent game, they lost a tight one at home to the Atlanta Hawks, 124–122. However, before that setback, the Suns had put together a five-game winning streak, beating the Los Angeles Clippers twice, as well as the New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, and Indiana Pacers. The schedule has certainly helped them, but they’ve still exceeded expectations, currently sitting at 8–6.

Considering all the players who left in the offseason and the many question marks surrounding the newcomers, it’s clear the Phoenix Suns have performed far better than anticipated. But new problems have emerged — summer acquisition Jalen Green got injured after just two games, and Grayson Allen has now joined the injury list after an excellent stretch of performances. The reliable guard recently scored 42 points in the win over the New Orleans Pelicans, and had reached double figures in every game this season. Devin Booker remains the unquestioned leader of the team, dropping 33 points against Indiana and 27 in the loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Dillon Brooks returned to action after missing three weeks due to injury and immediately made a major impact. He put up 32 and 34 points in his first two games back, bringing much-needed toughness and edge to the team. The Suns rank seventh in three-point percentage on an impressive volume, as they attempt the eighth-most threes per game in the league. Their offense ranks ninth in offensive rating, and their defense 12th, all of which suggests that their strong start to the season is anything but a fluke.

Where to Watch Portland Trail Blazers vs Phoenix Suns?

Portland Trail Blazers vs Phoenix Suns Best Betting Tip and Prediction

The Portland Trail Blazers have faced a brutal schedule lately, which is the primary reason they haven’t picked up more wins over their last five games. They played very well on the road against both the Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic, but lacked the energy and focus needed to close out those matchups. Now they return home to face a depleted Phoenix Suns squad, which recently lost Grayson Allen—one of their most impactful players since the start of the season—to injury. We believe the Portland Trail Blazers are the stronger team right now, and they should prove it with a win on their home floor.
