Milwaukee Bucks’ worrying start to the season hit a far more alarming note.

Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo exited Milwaukee’s 118–106 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers with a left groin strain, an injury that could sideline the two-time MVP for a significant stretch.

And based on early reactions, the team isn’t optimistic.

“We won’t know anything until tomorrow. It didn’t look great, I can tell you that,” Bucks coach Doc Rivers said postgame, confirming that Antetokounmpo will undergo imaging on Tuesday.

Antetokounmpo logged just 13 minutes before walking straight to the locker room with 3:03 left in the second quarter after fouling Evan Mobley. But Rivers suggested the issue began much earlier.

“He grabbed his groin in the first quarter, and I asked him right away. He said it was fine,” Rivers explained. “Then he grabbed it again. Same thing. Third time, that’s when it happened. But I think it happened before, in my opinion.”

Giannis finished with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists — well below his usual production. The 30-year-old entered the night averaging over 32 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists, continuing to lead Milwaukee through a turbulent opening month.

He was already listed as probable heading into the game due to left knee patellar tendinopathy, adding another layer of concern.

Now the Bucks sit at 8–7, having dropped three of their last four, and their franchise cornerstone’s status is uncertain. And for a team still trying to find rhythm under Rivers, losing Giannis for any amount of time could be destabilizing.

Antetokounmpo, a nine-time All-Star with career averages of 24.0 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists across 13 seasons, has been the heartbeat of Milwaukee’s offense for over a decade.

His potential absence looms large with the Bucks set to host the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday.
