The LA Clippers (4–11) visit the Charlotte Hornets (4–11) for a Saturday afternoon matchup at Spectrum Center in Charlotte.

Both teams come in struggling, having dropped four of their last five. With Kawhi Leonard sidelined, the Clippers have had a hard time generating consistent offense.

They were overpowered on Thursday by the Orlando Magic, 129–101, despite James Harden’s 31-point effort. Ivica Zubac was the only other Clipper to reach double figures with 14 points. Without Leonard — and with Bradley Beal out for the season — the Clippers simply lack reliable secondary scoring, a problem that persisted even when Beal was available and underperforming earlier in the year.

Charlotte, like the Clippers, doesn’t offer much resistance on the defensive end. The Hornets allow 120.1 points per game.

But their offense remains capable at 116.6 points per contest. Still, they’re coming off an embarrassing 127–118 loss to the Indiana Pacers, who entered with just one win.

The long-term future in Charlotte remains murky with LaMelo Ball’s role uncertain, but rookie Kon Knueppel continues to be a bright spot. He dropped 28 points with 8 rebounds and 7 assists in the loss to Indiana and is averaging 20.6 points per game this month, including two 30-point outings.

Second-round pick Ryan Kalkbrenner, the 7’1″ center from Creighton, is also emerging as a valuable piece. He’s averaging 9.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game while making the most of extensive minutes.

The building blocks are forming in Charlotte. It’s just unclear whether Ball will still be part of that future. For today’s matchup, the Hornets also get a boost with Brandon Miller returning for the first time since last month.

Prediction

Expect a comfortable win for the Hornets as they throw the full weight of their offensive firepower at a depleted Clippers squad.

Prediction: Hornets 121, Clippers 107
