Despite a strong start to the season, the San Antonio Spurs are dealing with uncertainties tied to injuries to key players, most notably two-way superstar Victor Wembanyama.
What Is the Latest Update on Victor Wembanyama?
The Spurs have undeniably found their next franchise player in Wembanyama, but injuries have affected the early portion of his career. He was limited to 71 games in his rookie season and just 46 last year, which affected his eligibility for awards.
On Nov. 17, it was announced that he was dealing with a left calf strain, sustained against the Golden State Warriors on Nov. 14. So far, he has missed four straight games and is set to miss at least four more.
According to a report from Maxime Aubin, Wembanyama will not join the Spurs on their four-game road trip, which started Sunday, Nov. 23, against the Phoenix Suns. This also means he is not expected to return this month, as the road trip ends Nov. 30 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
🚨 Breaking: Victor Wembanyama will not join the Spurs on their current road trip (four away games from Nov. 23–30) as he continues to rehab his calf strain.
No further information yet on when he might return.

Despite Wembanyama’s absence, the Spurs have managed to maintain their momentum. In the four games he has missed, they’ve lost only one — the opener of the road trip against the Suns.

Still, losing him for an extended period could affect their current standing. Wembanyama is the main driving force behind their tough interior defense, leading not just his squad but the entire league in blocks (3.6 per game).
In the 12 games he’s played, he’s established himself as the team’s top scorer, averaging 26.2 points per game. Unsurprisingly, he is also leading the Spurs in rebounds with 12.9 per contest.
Aside from Wembanyama, the Spurs are also without last season’s Rookie of the Year, Stephon Castle, and this year’s second overall pick, Dylan Harper.
Castle, who is averaging 17.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game, has missed the Spurs’ last three games with a hip injury.
Harper, who played in only the Spurs’ first six games, is dealing with the same ailment as Wembanyama. In those six games, he averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, showing why he was the No. 2 pick.
Through these injuries, All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox has stepped up. After missing the first eight games of the season with a hamstring injury, Fox returned to lead the team. Ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, he is averaging 23.5 points and 6.1 assists per game.
