The Houston Rockets (10-4) travel to face the Phoenix Suns (11-6) tonight at the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix.

The Suns are rising in the West. After a rocky 1–4 start, they’ve gone 10–2 — one of the best stretches in the league — powered by Devin Booker’s 26.9 points and 7.1 assists per game. Just as important have been the leaps Dillon Brooks (21.4 PPG) and Grayson Allen (18.5 PPG) have made this season. Allen exploded for 42 points against the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this month.

Allen, however, has missed the last four games with a quad injury. And he’ll be out for tonight’s game as well. In his absence, Collin Gillespie has stepped up in surprising fashion, averaging 17.3 points and 5.8 assists.

Houston, meanwhile, has been firing on all cylinders. The Rockets come in with the league’s third-highest scoring offense at 122.9 points per game and pair it with a top-10 defense. Kevin Durant has elevated their ceiling, averaging 24.6 points and fitting seamlessly alongside Alperen Sengun, who’s putting up elite numbers at 22.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game.

Tonight was supposed to be Durant’s first return to Phoenix since this summer’s blockbuster trade, but he’ll be out due to a personal issue. Jalen Green — the other major piece in that deal — remains sidelined for Phoenix with a lingering hamstring issue after playing only one full game this season.

Prediction

With Houston shorthanded and Phoenix strong at home, the Suns have the edge — but expect a tight finish.

Prediction: Suns 118, Rockets 115
