Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder impressed fans with their 10th straight win, securing a 113-105 victory over Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Wednesday.
The Thunder improved to 18-1 thanks to a clutch three-pointer from Chet Holmgren and late free throws to close it out, staying perfect at 9-0 on their home floor as the Timberwolves fell to 10-8.
In NBA Cup Group Play, Oklahoma City moved to a perfect 3-0 in West Group A on its way toward a knockout-round berth. The loss pushed Minnesota to 2-2, though it still has a shot at the Western wild-card spot.
SGA led the way with 40 points, six rebounds and six assists and three steals on an efficient 12-of-19 shooting night to set the tone.
Edwards tried to keep Minnesota in it with 31 points, eight rebounds and five assists in an impressive showing against the league’s top team.
Fans were in awe as SGA and the Thunder rolled to their 10th consecutive win, continuing one of the most dominant starts in the NBA this season.
The Thunder held a 10-point lead over the Timberwolves at halftime, powered by 19 points from Gilgeous-Alexander. Edwards entered the break with just six points for Minnesota.
The Timberwolves clawed back in the third, outscoring Oklahoma City to set up a tight finish as OKC carried a seven-point edge into the fourth.Â
The Thunder stretched the lead to four in the final minutes before Edwards drilled a clutch three to cut it to one. Holmgren answered with a three of his own to push the margin back to four, and SGA sealed it at the free-throw line as Oklahoma City escaped with a gutsy win.
The Thunder will host the Phoenix Suns on Friday.
