The Brooklyn Nets have four first-round picks in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft, but they came away from the Draft Lottery with just the eighth overall pick in the event. While Brooklyn can still get an impact player at No. 8 overall, they are reportedly expected to try to trade up and they could be able to trade for a premium pick.

Time will tell if the Nets end up pulling off a trade for a higher pick in the Draft and at the moment, it seems like the Dallas Mavericks are holding onto the No. 1 pick so they can take Duke forward Cooper Flagg. The team after the Mavericks, the San Antonio Spurs, are projected to take Rutgers guard Dylan Harper second overall, but there is a chance that San Antonio listens to offers.

“Rival teams expect the Spurs will entertain their options,” ESPN’s Jeremy Woo reported on Monday in his and co-worker Jonathan Givony’s latest mock draft. Woo reported in the same piece that teams expect the Nets to consolidate some of their assets with present and future cap space being part of their thinking during this Draft cycle.

Brooklyn has plenty of options with what they can do this summer outside of the Draft so it makes sense that other teams expect to do more with their assets than just in singular moves. While the reports indicate that the Spurs could be listening to offers for the second overall pick, Woo does make it clear that San Antonio is leaning towards taking Harper.

“The wide assumption is Harper will be the pick, barring a blockbuster move,” Woo continued. “Though trade speculation has swirled around San Antonio and this pick since lottery night, at this stage of the process, it appears to be simply that.”

It’s still early in the predraft process so it’s possible that Nets general manager Sean Marks and the front office would be more comfortable taking someone like Duke forward Kon Knueppel at No. 8. If Brooklyn is looking for a bigger move, they may be able to look to the Spurs for one of those moves if San Antonio is willing to move off Harper.
