Fresh off a 104-83 win over the Providence Friars on Thursday, the Wisconsin Badgers are taking on the TCU Horned Frogs in the Rady Children’s Invitational Championship Game on Friday.
Wisconsin had another commanding win on Thursday, bouncing back from a disappointing 98-70 loss to the BYU Cougars last week with a blowout victory over Providence.
Things were close early, but Wisconsin went on a 20-5 run to close out the first half, taking a 19-point lead into halftime. Providence could never put a dent into that lead in the second half as Wisconsin’s offense continued to roll in a high-tempo game.
Nick Boyd starred, scoring a career-high 36 points on 15/25 shooting, while also adding seven rebounds and seven assists. Boyd impressively facilitated the offense without turning the ball over.
Forward Austin Rapp had his best day as a Badger, scoring 20 points and knocking down five threes in the win.
Wisconsin will face a TCU team that upset the No. 10 Florida Gators 84-80 on Thursday, handing the defending champions their second loss of the season.
TCU did not shoot the three-ball well (4/17 from deep), but still managed to hit over 57 percent of their twos and get to the free throw line 33 times in the win. Jace Posey had a very efficient 21 points off the bench, while starters Brock Harding and David Punch each had 19 in the win.
The Horned Frogs started their season with a surprise loss to New Orleans, despite being 21.5-point favorites, and also played the Michigan Wolverines close in a four-point loss. Perhaps they’re turning the page with the win over Florida.
Providence’s defense has been the issue, as it’s allowed 82.5 points per game, while averaging 93.5 points on its own. Senior Jason Edwards has been the leader, averaging nearly 20 points a contest, while shooting 44.3 percent from the field.
