Utah continues to stonewall all talks for Lauri Markkanen. If they move him, it will be sudden . FanSided | Nov. 18, 2025

IN THE LEAD-UP to the trade deadline in February, Curry and Kerr echoed a sentiment first shared publicly by Green. The three delivered a unified message about the need for their front office and ownership group to be pragmatic in their approach, stating that it would be unwise to unload all their future assets for the most realistic available upgrade. Green even told Dunleavy and controlling owner Joe Lacob the summer prior not to green-light a trade for Lauri Markkanen, considering the Utah Jazz were asking for all the draft picks and young players. “I’m a big fan of [Markkanen’s] game,” Green said. “But I think if you want to do something so huge you better be certain that this is the move. You usually don’t win those things against Danny Ainge. I look at history.” ESPN | Oct. 23, 2025
Could The Jazz Trade Markkanen? Now, while I’ve been told that the Jazz aren’t trading Markkanen, and Ainge’s comments at media day are to be taken at face value, we know that every player can be had for the right price. While I don’t believe the Jazz are actively shopping Markkanen, they owe it to themselves to listen to any offers that come their way. With parity at an all-time high in the NBA, and teams continuing to make big swings in the trade market (see the Dallas Mavericks and Anthony Davis, the New York Knicks and Mikal Bridges, and the Orlando Magic and Desmond Bane), it would be irresponsible to make any player on the roster untouchable. Andy Larsen: Jazz injury report: “Kyle Filipowski (lower back injury management), Walker Kessler (left shoulder soreness) and Lauri Markkanen (left wrist contusion) were all full practice participants today. Kyle Anderson (right knee tendinitis) did not participate in practice.” Bluesky | Oct. 12, 2025
This wrist injury is real, but it is also relatively minor. Markkanen confirmed that the wrist bruise was picked up during Finland’s EuroBasket run to the semifinals, and it was causing him some pain during that time. However, it’s not a major issue now. While Markkanen isn’t taking part in the Jazz’s major training camp sessions, he is present for them. He also works out afterward, both on and off the court — and he doesn’t have any visible wrist protection on during those sessions viewed by the media. He’s still dribbling, if not dunking, with either hand. Salt Lake Tribune | Oct. 10, 2025
The Ringer’s Zach Lowe, for example, recently opined: “The more I just look at the league landscape and zoom out and talk to people … I can’t imagine a scenario where Lauri Markkanen is on the Jazz in a year.” Salt Lake Tribune | Oct. 10, 2025
Likewise, Ainge specifically denied Lowe’s read on the situation, that Markkanen was likely to be traded within a year. “I don’t agree with that,” Ainge said. “And I love Zach, but look, (I’m a) huge fan of Lauri. Lauri’s awesome. He’s really good, and Lauri could and hopefully is part of our next team when we’re going up.” However, he didn’t rule out the possibility of a trade. “I joke that, obviously, no one is untradeable,” Ainge said. “If a trade came in for me, I would convince (Jazz owner) Ryan (Smith) to take it. You know, this is how it goes.” Salt Lake Tribune | Oct. 10, 2025
