Utah Jazz vs Houston Rockets Preview
Utah Jazz suffered a heavy 129–101 loss to the Houston Rockets last night, marking the team’s fifth defeat in its last six outings. The Utah Jazz’s only win in that span came against the Sacramento Kings, a 128–119 victory, while they fell twice to the Los Angeles Lakers and also to the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder — a stretch that makes clear their recent schedule has been anything but easy. Their current record stands at 6–13.
The Utah Jazz actually opened the season better than most analysts predicted. Will Hardy’s team plays organized, fluid basketball with plenty of ball movement and off-ball action on offense. The young coach continues to draw attention with creative sets and smart play-calling that highlights the strengths of his personnel. Still, this roster has obvious limitations, so it’s no surprise their record cratered once the schedule toughened. Recent games have offered little relief, so the lopsided losses haven’t shocked anyone. Even so, they did manage one win — the one over the Sacramento Kings — thanks to Keyonte George, Lauri Markkanen and Brice Sensabaugh, who combined for 79 points and were the only double-digit scorers on the team. Utah surrendered 46 points in the fourth quarter of that matchup, but its previously built lead held up. Defense, however, has been a major issue all season, and the Jazz currently own the league’s third-worst defensive rating. Against the Houston Rockets’ explosive offense, they never stood a chance, but the more troubling sign was that they mustered only 101 points themselves. The main culprit was Keyonte George, who failed to score for the first time this season after reaching double figures in every prior game.
As noted, the Houston Rockets defeated the Utah Jazz in what was their third straight win and their 13th victory in the last 15 contests. Over the past month, the Houston Rockets’ only losses have come against the Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs. Their 13–4 record places them third in the Western Conference and firmly among the teams that have impressed most in the early stretch of the season.
When a team owns the league’s second-best offense and second-best defense, it’s clear you’re dealing with a high-caliber group. The Houston Rockets ranks near the top in numerous statistical categories — first in rebounds per game, fourth in points per game, second in three-point percentage and fifth in steals. Ime Udoka’s squad plays with ease and precision on offense and with relentless energy and aggression on the defensive end. Against the Utah Jazz, they posted 17 more rebounds and six more steals, converting those extra possessions into 22 points. They also dominated in transition and shot an excellent 35-for-56 inside the arc. After missing two games, Kevin Durant returned with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists. He received major contributions from Aaron Holiday, Steven Adams and Jabari Smith Jr., while Alperen Sengun — the team’s most efficient performer — led all scorers with 27 points. Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun are the clear leaders of this group, but the supporting cast has shown it can step up when needed. Reed Sheppard erupted for 31 points and nine rebounds in the win over the Golden State Warriors, and Amen Thompson led the way with 28 points, seven boards and eight assists against the Phoenix Suns. Houston Rockets played both of those games without Kevin Durant, yet the rest of the roster proved more than capable of carrying the load.
Utah Jazz vs Houston Rockets H2H
These teams faced off last night, and the Houston Rockets were overwhelmingly dominant in a 129–101 victory. Last season, the Houston Rockets also had the upper hand against the Utah Jazz, winning two of their three head-to-head matchups.
Injuries and Suspensions
The Utah Jazz will be without Georges Niang and Walker Kessler, while Kevin Love and Oscar Tshiebwe are listed as questionable. The Houston Rockets will be missing Fred VanVleet and Tari Eason, with Dorian Finney-Smith listed as questionable for this matchup.
Where to Watch Utah Jazz vs Houston Rockets?
Utah Jazz vs Houston Rockets Best Betting Tip and Prediction
After suffering a heavy loss to the same opponent the night before, the Utah Jazz are expected to show some fight and deliver a much stronger performance in front of their fans. This team has been playing well above preseason expectations, and that’s no accident — it’s the product of standout individual performances and strong coaching. Houston Rockets, on the other hand, may ease off the throttle slightly with tougher challenges looming ahead. For all these reasons, we expect the Utah Jazz to stay competitive and avoid a loss larger than the projected spread.
