Ja Morant, Grizzlies, NBAGetty

Two Western Conference teams are keeping a close eye on Ja Morant’s situation in Memphis.

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, both the Kings and Timberwolves plan to “continue to monitor” things as the Grizzlies wait for their star guard to return from a right calf strain.

“Teams such as the Sacramento Kings and the Minnesota Timberwolves that were known to be monitoring the situation before will continue to do so,” Amick wrote. “All while watching closely when Ja Morant returns.”

There is still no firm timetable for Morant, though his initial projection hinted at a possible early December return. Memphis has stayed competitive in his absence, sitting at 9-12, ninth in the West.

Morant has been active from the bench, something head coach Tuomas Iisalo said has made a real impact.

“It is a huge advantage for us,” Iisalo said. “He is asking stuff of me and giving some tips there for the guys. Overall, really good communication, really good leadership, both from him and also from Jaren Jackson Jr. and our veteran guys.”

Morant has appeared in 12 games this season. He is averaging 17.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.6 assists while shooting 35.9 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from deep.

He is due $39.4 million this season, $42.2 million next season and $44.9 million in 2027-28.

The former Rookie of the Year has led Memphis to the second round only once. With trade speculation circling and the Grizzlies fighting to stay afloat, his return will be watched closely across the league.
