Minnesota Timberwolves superstar shooting guard Anthony Edwards continued his early-season scoring surge during Tuesday’s 149-142 overtime road victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Still, the three-time All-Star was less than enthused after the game, delivering a blunt yet fitting four-word reaction to his big night.
Anthony Edwards Not Satisfied With 44-Point Outburst vs. Pelicans
Edwards overcame a relatively quiet 10-point first half to finish with a season-high 44 points, five rebounds, four assists, and six 3-pointers, shooting 16-for-30 (53.3%).
The 24-year-old made several big plays down the stretch, including sinking a pull-up 3 to tie the game at 125-125 with 1:49 remaining. Shortly after, Edwards converted a driving layup to knot the score at 129-129 with 2.3 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
That set the stage for his co-stars Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert to take over in the extra period, combining for 16 points as Minnesota outscored New Orleans 20-13 to prevail.
Edwards’ 44-point eruption marked his sixth straight outing with 30-plus points, tying Timberwolves icon Kevin Love’s franchise record set back in 2014. He is averaging a whopping 38.3 points per game during that span, having crossed the 40-point threshold in three of his last six appearances.
Even so, Edwards left points on the table early in Tuesday’s win, missing four of his first five long-range attempts before heating up from beyond the arc. Minnesota (13-8) needed every bit of his production to overcome a 15-point third-quarter deficit against the league-worst Pelicans (3-19), who were missing multiple key players, including star forward Zion Williamson (adductor).
When asked postgame about his season-best scoring effort and matching Love’s 30-point game streak, Edwards made it clear he wasn’t content with his performance.
“I shoulda had 50,” Edwards said without hesitation.

Upon heading to the locker room, the 2020 No. 1 pick also weighed in on how the Timberwolves can improve their defensive focus after nearly suffering an embarrassing defeat.
“It’s just a collective effort from everybody as far as just mentality-wise,” Edwards noted. “Gotta be locked in from the start of the game.”
He also acknowledged that New Orleans’ lack of a “go-to guy” made it difficult for his squad to zero in on who to stop, with “random guys bringing the ball up the court.” Edwards’ critical remarks came despite Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III’s 33-point showing.
However, the Timberwolves will be far more familiar with their Western Conference foe heading into Thursday’s rematch in New Orleans as they seek to extend their winning streak to four games.
“We should be ready next game,” Edwards concluded.
