PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers were able to handle their business on Tuesday against the lowly Washington Wizards as they led by as many as 36 on their way to a 121-102 win at home. The Sixers received another big night from Tyrese Maxey who had 35 points, six assists, four rebounds, and four steals as he was able to play only 29 minutes–which is a big win for Philadelphia.

While Maxey was able to have a big night, a big lift was given to this group in the form of Jabari Walker. The 4-year big man out of Colorado had 10 points and 12 rebounds off the bench and he knocked down a couple of 3-pointers early. The 3-pointers are something the Sixers have wanted from Walker throughout this entire season, so that is a good sign for Maxey and Co.

“He was really good tonight,” Maxey said of Walker after the win. “He rebounded, well, he defended well, made some 3s. He’s a pretty good shooter, when he’s not pump faking 3s, so he does a good job.”

The pump faking 3s comment is what stands out. Coach Nick Nurse has continued to encourage Walker to take those open looks from beyond the arc, and it appears that message is being echoed by his teammates as well. Heading into this contest against the Wizards, he took only 17 3-point attempts across 18 games. He took five in the win on Tuesday.

“I just want him to shoot,” Maxey added. “I see him shoot in camp every day. Every training camp—like, training camp practice, he made every 3. So I’m like ‘Dude, shoot it. Shoot it. You made every 3 in training camp practice.’ So, you got the leeway to shoot it, and Nurse wants you to shoot. When Nurse wants you to shoot, you got to shoot them.”

It wasn’t just the shooting touch that Walker displayed on Tuesday either. The Sixers have been impressed with his ability to just be a physical presence for them. He has a knack for snatching down rebounds and giving Philadelphia somebody it can rely on in the paint. Of Walker’s 12 rebounds, three of them were on the offensive glass as he gave the Sixers a boost in that area of the game.

“Bari, man, he’s just a bully,” added Paul George. “So physical, so strong. He’s kind of a glue guy. He does a little bit of everything. He spreads the floor, guards, rebounds. He does so much of the little dirty work, and he’s that tough enforcer. He’s a bully for us out there. So very valuable to have Bari for us.”

The Sixers will need Walker to keep this going as they prepare for the Golden State Warriors on Thursday at home.
