The Cleveland Cavaliers are not having a repeat of the 2024-2025 NBA season.
Through almost two dozen games of the regular season, the Cavaliers have a record of 13-10. Entering Friday’s game against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland has lost four of their last five matchups. This includes a 12-point loss to the Portland Trail Blazers (9-13).
In the midst of their struggles, the Cavaliers were hit with a major fine.

NBA Fines Cavaliers $250,000
Cavaliers All-Star guard Darius Garland is having quite the disappointing year since returning from injury. Garland has missed a great number of games this season with a toe injury but has failed to meet expectations when on the floor. He is averaging 13.6 points, 6.5 assists, and 2.8 rebounds on 34.7% shooting and 34% shooting from three-point range in eight appearances.
On Thursday, the NBA announced it is fining the Cavaliers $250,000 for a decision related to Garland.
“The NBA announced today that the Cleveland Cavaliers have been fined $250,000 for violating the league’s Player Participation Policy,” the post read. “The league’s investigation confirmed that Darius Garland, a star player under the Policy, was able to play in one of the team’s two games on Nov. 23 against the LA Clippers and Nov. 24 against the Toronto Raptors.
The announcement continued, “The violation occurred when the Cavaliers failed to make Garland available for the team’s nationally-televised game on Nov. 24 and instead made him available on Nov. 23 which was not a nationally-televised game.”
On November 23, the Cavaliers took down the Los Angeles Clippers 120-105, but Garland had a poor outing. He finished the night with eight points, eight assists, and one rebound on 30% shooting.
Fast forward to the following night, Garland was sidelined against the Toronto Raptors due to left great toe injury management. The Cavaliers were defeated by the Raptors 110-99, as almost all of Cleveland’s active roster struggled to perform.
With a quarter of a million dollar fine on the books, it’s safe to say the Cavaliers will try and avoid this moving forward.
