ORLANDO — Observations and other notes of interest from Friday night’s 106-105 loss to the Orlando Magic:

– This time there were no questions about the Heat shot diet.

– With Tyler Herro not in position to ask any questions.

– So Norman Powell got his shots.

– And Bam Adebayo got his.

– By now, the Heat have shown the ability to feature Powell and Adebayo.

– Working in Herro remains a work in progress.

– Progress that couldn’t come Friday with Herro sidelined with a toe injury that could keep him out awhile, depending on Saturday’s MRI.

– After Wednesday night’s loss in Dallas, Herro made clear his expectations of more than the five shots he got in that second half.

– In what proved to be a scoreless second half after his 20-point first half.

– Friday night, Adebayo had 10 shots in the first half, Powell nine.

– Which means the Herro element will remain a work in progress when he again is ready to work.

– For the Heat to be at their best, they need a variety of high-output scorers.

– Herro has been that, can be that.

– As Friday night’s third quarter showed, has to be that.

– But it will require the ability to get on the same page.

– For now, Adebayo and Powell eat.

– As Herro waits to be re-seated.

– With opponents muscling up the Heat in a bid to slow them down.

– And eliminate the attempts from beyond the arc.

– Herro in street clothes does not help in that regard.

– With Herro (toe) out and Powell (ankle) back, the Heat opened with a lineup of Adebayo, Kel’el Ware, Andrew Wiggins, Davion Mitchell and Powell.

– That means Herro and Powell still have only played three games together.

– Of constantly juggling lineups and rotations, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said pregame, “I think all things considered, we’ve been fortunate with the injuries that we’ve had, that most of the guys, it’s been short-term.”

– He added, “This also is what the job is. It’s what the league is. Oftentimes you’re constantly adapting and adjusting as necessary.”

– The Magic opened with Jalen Suggs, Desmond Bane, Franz Wagner, Paolo Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr.

– It was Banchero’s first game after a 10-game absence with a strained left groin.

– Jaime Jaquez Jr. was first off the Heat bench.

– Followed by Pelle Larsson.

– And then Dru Smith.

– With Simone Fontecchio making it nine deep.

– As Nikola Jovic looked on from the bench.

– The game opened the fourth of the Heat’s 15 back-to-back sets of the season, with a 3-0 record to this point on the second nights of such sets.

– With the Heat home on Saturday night against the Kings.

– The game marked the Heat’s third already in Orlando this season, when counting an exhibition, with the Heat to be back Tuesday for an NBA Cup game that also counts in the regular-season schedule.

– “You deal with each game. Every game’s going to be different,” Adebayo said. “We would like to play the games at home, but it just seems like we’re always here. But it’s OK.”

– Said Spoelstra, “This is what the schedule is. You just have to face whoever is in front of you on a particular night. It seems like there have been, league-wide, a few of these circumstances where you’re  playing the same team a couple of times in the same week.”

– After Tuesday concludes the Heat’s play in Orlando, the team will meet Jan. 28 and March 14 in Miami.

– Adebayo said the evolution in the teams has been apparent since meeting the Magic twice in the preseason (including once in Puerto Rico).

– “We’ve grown as a team; they’ve grown as a team,” he said.

– Mitchell’s eighth point was the 2,500th of his career.
