Giannis Antetokounmpo is now facing trading issues (Image via AP) Teams are keeping a close eye on the Milwaukee Bucks and their allegedly unhappy superstar, Giannis Antetokounmpo. According to a recent report from Jake Fischer, there may be a forming landscape surrounding Antetokounmpo, his preferred new team in the recent York Knicks, and the Knicks’ main challenger in a potential trade for the Bucks forward.Fischer verified what league management had long suspected. Giannis Antetokounmpo considers the New York Knicks his favored destination if he ever asks for a trade from Milwaukee. However, the Bucks have continued to remind the public that Giannis is supposedly unavailable.
Why Giannis Antetokounmpo’s uncertain future continues to ignite NBA-wide trade whispers?
According to Fischer, that would be another Eastern Conference team, the Miami Heat. That being said, Fischer reported that front offices anticipate an unusual hunt for any team preparing future proposals, as everyone believes Antetokounmpo will have a significant influence on his next team. However, Marc Stein said that the Bucks are supposedly unwilling to part ways with their star player. As the trade deadline for the 2025-26 season approaches, the Milwaukee Bucks continue to claim that Giannis Antetokounmpo is not available, sources confirm. As per Stein’s X post:“As trade season draws close, everyone is talking about Giannis. Even though — and I want to underline this — the Bucks continue to tell teams: ‘He’s not available. We don’t want your trade pitches…”He continued:“So, it’s this weird deal where the Bucks keep shouting into the wind: ‘Listen to us! We don’t want to talk trades with you about Giannis Antetokounmpo!’ And the rest of the league just ignores it and obsesses about him.”Stein observes that, despite the Bucks’ repeated denials, the other 29 franchises continue to act as if a deal is possible. Teams are preparing for a time when Milwaukee may consider offers, but Stein emphasises, “To this point — the Bucks continue to say: ‘We are not trading this guy.'”Furthermore, not only Stein but also ESPN’s Brian Windhorst made the same claim once. In a recent interview, Windhorst stated that Antetokounmpo requested a trade to the New York Knicks during the most recent offseason. However, Windhorst informed listeners that Giannis had not been moved and that the team had no plans to move him.Antetokounmpo is committed with Milwaukee until the 2027-28 season, but Windhorst believes he might be traded before the start of next season. Doc Rivers, Bucks coach, stated Wednesday that Antetokounmpo has not demanded a trade.
Heat, Warriors and others face major hurdles in Giannis pursuit
Meanwhile, other teams, notably the Miami Heat, seem unlikely suitors unless big personnel changes occur. Stein emphasises that Miami would have to part with guys like Andrew Wiggins in a true trade, while sources say the Heat cannot seriously compete for Giannis without significant assets.Antetokounmpo, who turned 31 over the weekend, averages 28.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists while shooting 43.5 percent from three. He is still available for an extension in 2026, according to Fischer, and several franchises are keeping a careful eye on the issue.Antetokounmpo’s player option for the 2027-28 season increases his influence over potential destinations. According to league executives, any team interested in acquiring him would require promises of re-signing, guaranteeing both competitive potential and market appeal are met. Also read:
