Former Cavs player arrested for failing to appear in court on a speeding ticket

  • December 10, 2025

BEACHWOOD, Ohio (WOIO) – Former Cavaliers player Daniel “Boobie” Gibson was arrested Monday evening during a traffic stop.

Gibson was pulled over by Beachwood police around 10:30 p.m. on I-271 south for driving a pickup truck with no tail lights.

According to the police report, Gibson told the officer he thought the lights were on; however, after the officer opened the driver’s door, he saw the switch in the off position and showed Gibson how to turn them on.

When the officer called in Gibson’s California driver’s license to dispatch, he was told the license was valid, but Gibson had an active warrant out of Mansfield Municipal Court.

The warrant was for failing to appear in court on a speeding ticket issued by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).

The warrant was from 2023.

Gibson was pulled over by OSHP on Dec. 8, 2022 for going 90 mph in a 70 mph zone on I-71 in Washington Township, Richland County.

When Beachwood police contacted OSHP, they confirmed the warrant and said they would extradite him.

Beachwood police then gave Gibson a verbal warning for the no lights, and took him into custody on the warrant.

Gibson was transported to the Beachwood Jail and an OSHP trooper was sent to pick him up.

The passenger in Gibson’s vehicle had a valid license and was able to leave in his pick-up truck.

Gibson was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the 2006 NBA draft and played seven seasons for them.
