The Phoenix Suns couldn’t handle the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. Without their All-Star, Devin Booker, the Suns suffered a 138-89 loss. With a 24-1 record, the Thunder are the second team to accomplish this. It was an important game for Phoenix since it was the quarter-finals of the Emirates NBA Cup.

Because of Booker’s absence, the entire squad had to step up to battle the reigning NBA champions. Dillon Brooks had a team-high 16 points on 25% shooting, proving how tough it is to score against the Thunder defense. Suns guard Jordan Goodwin added 15 points off the bench.

One of the highlights of the game was Grayson Allen’s hard foul on Thunder center Chet Holmgren. In the middle of the third quarter, the frustration caught up with the former Duke guard, and he threw a forearm at Holmgren’s body. His actions earned him a flagrant 2 foul and he was eventually ejected.

After the hard-fought battle, Brooks was asked about his thoughts on his teammate’s ejection. The forward didn’t hold back and asked for better officiating, pointing out how the Thunder doesn’t get called for certain fouls.

“I think everyone says in the league that they play the most physical game and they probably have the less fouls in the league. Hope they can change that (expletive) up,” Brooks said via Duane Rankin.

Brooks was asked why he thinks the Thunder doesn’t get as many fouls called against them. He said this:

“Ask the reffing committee.”

The former Oregon forward wasn’t satisfied with his performance. He thought that he should’ve joined Allen and asserted the Suns’ physicality. During his interview, Brooks said that he has “to be a better teammate.”

Brooks has been a productive player for Phoenix this season. He’s averaging a career-high 22.1 points through 18 games.
