Following their dominant win over the Phoenix Suns last Wednesday night in the semifinals of the NBA Cup, the Oklahoma City Thunder are now 24-1 on the season and have matched the 2016 Golden State Warriors for the best start in NBA history.

The Thunder beat the Suns by 49 points and are winning this season by an average margin of 17.4 points per game. With no one so far solving the OKC riddle, many wonder if they even have a weakness. “Run it Back” co-host DeMarcus Cousins could think of only one.

“The popcorn is way too high,” said Cousins. “They got to bring down the price of popcorn.”

OKC has won 16 in a row

Of course, Cousins is just kidding because concession prices at the Paycom Center aren’t considered one of the highest in the league. While they may not have Mat Ishbia’s $2 value menu for food at the Phoenix Suns’ Footprint Center, the cost of popcorn at the Thunder’s arena isn’t as high as that at Madison Square Garden or Chase Center.

What he’s saying, though, is that The Thunder ranking number one overall in the league in Defensive Rating, Net Rating and No. five in offensive rating makes them a complete team that seemingly has no weaknesses in their game. Add the fact that they have a very deep roster with seven players averaging in double digits and 10 scoring over six points a game and it’s hard to find holes in the team right now, thus making it hard to beat them.

The Thunder have won 16 straight games, setting a franchise record. However, with how head coach Mark Daigneault is looking at things, snapping that streak may be easier said than done.

“Not focusing on the win streak,” Daigneault said after beating the Suns. “You just got to play the next possession, get better the next day, win the next quarter and compete in the next game. And then if you do that and you’re present in that process, sometimes you look up and you win a certain amount of games in a row. But we certainly need to understand, we still have a lot of improvement to make. We have a lot of things to sustain and a lot of competitive challenges ahead.”

24-1 is not even what makes them scary

However, the Thunder looking unbeatable this season is just the tip of the iceberg. With the sixth youngest team in the NBA at an average age of 24.5, they aren’t only very talented but also very young.

Cousins said this is what truly makes them a frightening team.

“The scary part of this OKC team, they’re gonna continue to get better. There’s one guy in his prime right now and that’s SGA. So the guys that are there are only going to get better. On top of that, they have more draft capital to even add more talent in the future. It’s going to be a long wait. It’s going to be a very, very long wait,” Boogie continued.

With boatloads of picks in GM Sam Presti’s arsenal, including the spiraling Los Angeles Clippers’ unprotected 2026 pick and a pick swap from them in 2027, the Thunder’s future is more than secured, which is why ESPN’s Tim McMahon recently said that the league is in a panic.

But you can’t blame the other 29 GMs for feeling that way, because as Boogie said, it could be a very long reign, a dynasty perhaps waiting to happen.
