A mixed bag of news was delivered to the Memphis Grizzlies a little more than 24 hours before a matchup against the Utah Jazz.
The good news came when Ja Morant was upgraded to questionable and later probable on the injury report. The bad news was that Grizzlies center Zach Edey would be re-evaluated in four weeks after a stress reaction in his left ankle.
Memphis will have a revamped lineup in its first meeting with the Jazz this season.
Utah (8-15) is led by the duo of forward Lauri Markkanen and guard Keyonte George. Markkanen is averaging 27.6 points per game, followed by George’s 22.2 points. The next healthy Jazz player in scoring average is rookie Ace Bailey at 10.3 points per game.
Both the Grizzlies and Jazz rank in the NBA’s top 10 in rebounding and assists per game. Memphis will rely on Jock Landale, Santi Aldama and Cedric Coward to lead the push in remaining a strong rebounding team without Edey.
Memphis will also be missing strong rebounding wing John Konchar, who is out after suffering a UCL tear in his left thumb.
Utah holds a 67-42 advantage in all-time regular season meetings.
