When the Houston Rockets hit the court to face the Denver Nuggets in a December 15 matchup on Peacock NBA Monday, they’ll be decked out with an extra dollop of all-Houston style — all thanks to the Rockets’ revival this season of a fan-favorite City Edition uniform.

What’s a City Edition uniform? It’s an NBA-sanctioned way for each of the league’s 30 teams to rep their hometown by rocking bespoke Nike-produced threads. First introduced for the 2017-2018 season, City Edition unis hone in on unique local themes and franchise-specific basketball legacies that highlight what’s cool and unique about each NBA squad and the cities that they call home.

The story behind the Houston Rockets’ “H-Town” City Edition uniforms

All throughout the NBA regular season, the Rockets will be rolling out their “H-Town” NBA Nike City Edition uniforms for approximately 17 games.

No matter what uniform they’re wearing, Rockets stars like Kevin Durant and Amen Thompson definitely stand out on any basketball court. But for Monday’s game against the Nuggets, they’ll be sporting NBA Nike City Edition jerseys that feature the fan-favorite “H-Town” graphic.

The “H-Town” logo itself is a motif that first debuted for Houston’s 2023-2024 season, when the Rockets combined the “H-Town” theme with an airborne “Dunkstronaut” graphic. A nod to Houston’s eminent “Space City” status as the home of NASA’s Johnson Space Center as well as the aerial audacity of Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon and Clyde “The Glide” Drexler — both University of Houston alums from the 1980s glory days of the Cougars’ “Phi Slama Jama” teams — the “Dunkstronaut” emblem appears on the City Edition’s shorts to complement the “H-Town” graphic on the jerseys.
