When it comes to forging success in the NBA, you do not just need a competent front office according to Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla. You also need a coaching staff and players who are all in alignment regarding the culture or philosophy of the team, from the top execs down to the two way players.

The Celtics coach recently took some time to talk with the hosts of the “Zolak and Bertrand” show in a video posted to the official “98.5 The Sports Hub” YouTube channel in a wide-ranging interview that touched on Boston’s success this season and what has been driving it. “To me, I think it comes down to two things,” said Mazzulla.

“It comes down to the alignment of the organization, communication, and alignment from ownership to front office to staff to players.”

“When you have that, you have a player understanding of what type of guys that you want, who you think can be impactful,” he continued. “And I think just as important, I think our core group of guys, starting with Jaylen (Brown) and Jayson (Tatum) and their ability to make people around them better, their ability to lead guys on and off the court.”

“And then we’ve had Derrick (White), we’ve had Payton (Pritchard), we’ve had Sam (Hauser), for four or five years. And so you cannot underestimate the character and the leadership of your top players on your locker room.”
