Despite low expectations heading into the 2025-26 NBA season, the Boston Celtics currently sit third in the Eastern Conference. They’re one game removed from a five-game winning streak. On their current trajectory, the Celtics will be a high seed heading into the postseason. However, there are still segments of the fanbase that is expecting the team to come crashing back to Earth as we get deeper into the season.
After all, the Celtics are in the early stages of a retooling process. Joe Mazzulla is coaching a roster full of unproven talent, fighting to prove they belong in the league. Interestingly, all three of Boston’s young forwards, Josh Minott, Jordan Walsh and rookie Hugo Gonzalez, have been standout performers over the opening two months of the season.
In a recent episode of The Boston Globe’s “Slam Dunk,” the host questioned whether the Celtics’ current production is sustainable for the rest of the season, especially as the team lacks experience within the second unit and deeper onto the bench. The host did highlight the leadership of veterans Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and Payton Pritchard. Nevertheless, there are some legitimate questions regarding the sustainability of the Celtics as currently constructed.
