The Brooklyn Nets are trying to make the most of the 2025-26 NBA season before they get to the 2026 NBA Draft where they hope to have a top-3 pick. Brooklyn began its rebuild two summers ago when they chose to acquire first-round picks so that they could find their next franchise player through the draft, but it looks like the Nets may have to change their target.

In Jonathan Wasserman‘s latest 2026 NBA mock draft for Bleacher Report, he projected the Nets to take Houston Cougars freshman guard Kingston Flemings with the sixth overall pick. While Brooklyn is hoping to get lucky enough in the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery to take Kansas guard Darryn Peterson, BYU guard AJ Dybantsa, or Duke forward Cameron Boozer, Flemings could serve as one of their guards of the future alongside Egor Demin.

“Though not the flashiest with the ball, he picks right spots and has the ball-handling, steps/strides, pull-up game and finishing package to capitalize,” Wasserman wrote on the 6-foot-4, 190-pounder while also comparing him to former NBA guard George Hill. “Flemings has quickly gained scouts’ support and inserted himself into the top-10 discussion.”

As of this writing, Flemings is averaging 14.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 60.6% from the field and 51.7% from three-point range in 11 games played for the Cougars this season. Based on Wasserman’s mock draft, Flemings would be the first point guard taken and he would be the second guard selected overall after Peterson, who’s listed as a shooting guard.

One could argue that Brooklyn doesn’t need more point guards after selecting Demin, Nolan Traore (19th overall), and Ben Saraf (26th) in the 2025 NBA Draft, but Flemings could be an upgrade within the position overall. Plus, it seems that Flemings could provide more off-ball shooting at either of the guard spots as Wasserman notes that he’s “also made 9-of-17 catch-and-shoot chances and looks comfortable spotting up alongside Milos Uzan.”
