Martha Stewart suffered a broken toe during a Knicks-Pacers game earlier this year.
But how? Martha is a woman of many talents, we almost wouldn’t be surprised if she could play basketball too, but the answer is much simpler than that.
Martha was sitting courtside during the Eastern Conference Finals in May and happened to be wearing open toe shoes, something she now warns against.
“See those open-toe shoes? Never ever wear open-toe shoes to a game like that when you’re sitting on the floor,” she said, highlighting her footwear in a photo on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
She then explained that she received her “Brunson fracture,” meaning Knicks player Jalen Brunson stepped on her “big toe,” resulting in a broken foot.
“He broke my toe,” she said, adding, “and it was like in the last five minutes of the game with the Pacers and they went into overtime, which made it even more painful because I couldn’t get up and leave to take care of my toe.”
Martha said Brunson had no idea the incident had even happened, but “I knew it was broken immediately. And he sat on my lap, comes crashing down….” she described.
She did end up telling Brunson’s parents, including Eric Brunson who happens to be the assistant coach of the team.
“They were laughing,” Martha said. “They thought it was so funny.”
And what did Martha get for all her pain and suffering?
“All I got out of it was a signed basketball for my grandchild,” she joked.
