SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah and BYU wide receiver Samson Nacua was arrested over the weekend for allegedly taking a vehicle without consent, according to reporting from NBC Los Angeles.

NBC Los Angeles first reported the arrest on Wednesday, December 17, citing law enforcement sources.

Nacua, the brother of Los Angeles Rams wideout Puka Nacua, was apprehended alongside Trey Rose by Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department officers for allegedly taking the SUV of Los Angeles Lakers rookie Adou Thiero. It’s unclear where or when the SUV was stolen, according to law enforcement.

Authorities responded to the One Hotel in West Hollywood after Thiero’s vehicle was tracked there, LASD exclusively told NBC4 Investigates.

Using security footage, Nacua and Rose were identified as having valeted the vehicle before entering the hotel, NBC Los Angeles reported. Deputies took both men into custody after locating them at the hotel.

Both men face a charge of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, NBC Los Angeles reported, citing law enforcement.

Commonly referred to as ‘joyriding‘, California Penal Code Section 487(d)(1) PC allows prosecutors to seek either a felony or a misdemeanor charge. It is considered a less serious offense than Grand Theft Auto.
