Being short-handed may be an understatement for the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies are expected to be without nine players for a Dec. 20 game against the Washington Wizards (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network).

That group includes Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant, who will miss his second consecutive game due to a left ankle sprain. Vince Williams Jr. is also among the newest additions to the availability report due to left knee soreness.

Morant injured his ankle in the fourth quarter of a Dec. 15 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iislao said Morant is currently “day-to-day.”

Morant is averaging 17.7 points and 7.5 assists in 14 games this season.

“He’s progressing really,” Iisalo said. “Luckily it wasn’t a serious injury.”

Two Grizzlies players won’t be available for reasons other than injuries. GG Jackson and Jahmai Mashack will participate in the Winter League showcase with the G League Memphis Hustle on Dec. 20 against the Windy City Bulls.

Iisalo said the players could join the team after the showcase.

Memphis will have guard Cam Spencer back after he missed one game due to personal reasons. Spencer has been one of the NBA’s best reserve scorers in recent weeks. He’s reached double figures in 10 consecutive games, making 35 3-pointers on 63.6% shooting.
