SPOKANE, Wash. —The North Central Wolfpack won their tenth straight Groovy Shoes competition over the Shadle Park Highlanders in an action packed night featuring a North Central win in the boys basketball game, the highlanders winning the girls basketball game, and the Wolfpack bringing the shoes back for the 10th straight time.

The night kicked off with the boys basketball game, where the Wolfpack pulled away in the second half to win 73-49.

Tyson Vogrig led the way with 22 points for the Wolfpack, with Isaac Williams and Jordan Shanks each adding ten.

What was a five-point game at halftime quickly swung in North Central’s favor, as they came out of the locker room and outscored Shadle Park 43-24 in the second half.

Ja’Mir Johnson led the Highlanders with 17 points. Carter Lund chipped in eight.

The Shadle Park girls flipped the script with a 54-40 win over North Central, with Makenzie Fagar scoring 32 points for the Highlanders to propel them to the win. Shadle Park jumped out to a quick lead and were up 22-15 after the first half, with Fagar scoring 12 points and Shea Krotzer added four points for Shadle Park.

The Wolfpack came out of halftime and went on a run to make it just a two point game, but from there the Highlanders began to fill it up from long range, with Fagar and Milla Harrington making two three pointers a piece to extend the lead late.

Mia Shaw finished with 12 points and Micaela Mendez added nine for North Central, but turnovers and Shadle Park’s full court pressure caused problems for the Wolfpack all game long.

The spirit competition was awarded to North Central, whose theme was Groovy Grand Prix, with many characters from the movie Cars, as well as many other racing props being used in the competition. For Shadle Park, their theme of Return of the Sole paid homage to the schools roots and their mascot the Highlander. In the end, the Wolfpack were awarded the Groovy Shoes for another year.
