What to know about the Grizzlies vs. Thunder Peacock NBA Monday game on December 22
What we have here is two very different NBA storylines converging in a single game. On one side, you’ve got the Grizzlies, who’ve struggled so far this season to even keep their win-loss record above .500 due to injuries and other issues. Considered a rising playoff darling just a handful of years ago, the Grizzlies are fighting to get that magic back, and they’ve had to fight at various points this season without star guard Ja Morant and rising star center Zach Edey. Edey’s expected to be out with an ankle injury until early January, but Morant will hopefully be back on the court for this game, so we’ll see what kind of star power he can bring to the table.

On the other side is the Thunder, the defending NBA Champions who have looked every bit like a dynasty team so far this season. They lost their first game of the season to the Trail Blazers in early November, then went on to win 16 straight games, many of them in dominant fashion, before the Spurs ended that streak on December 13. It likely won’t be the last big win streak they put together. Last year’s league MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is one of the league’s top scorers right now, while Isaiah Hartenstein is a top rebounder and Cason Wallace is hovering near the top of the list for most steals so far this season. They’ve got offense, they’ve got defense, and they’ve got young talent eager to prove they’ve got what it takes to win back-to-back titles. That makes them hard to beat, especially at home. But as a couple of teams have proven already this season, it’s not impossible.
