What to know about the Hornets vs. Cavaliers Peacock NBA Monday game on December 22

This is the second time in the span of two weeks that the Hornets and Cavs will play each other, after Charlotte came into Cleveland and notched a 119-111 overtime road win on December 14. The Cavs will be looking to bounce back at home before the four-game series continues into 2026, with the final two games in January and February played at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center.

Hornets rookie Kon Knueppel and Brandon Miller combined for 54 points as Charlotte held the Cavs to a scoreless overtime in the two teams’ December 14 contest. Star point guard LaMelo Ball has been recently sidelined with an ongoing ankle injury and didn’t see the court in the Hornets’ first win over the Cavs, though he could be cleared for play by the time the Hornets head to Cleveland on Monday.

Cleveland All-Star forward Evan Mobley is likely to miss out on Monday’s action while recuperating from a calf strain, though the Cavs should still have leading scorer Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell notched 17 points in the Cavs’ recent loss to the Hornets, while
point guard Darius Garland led the way with 26 points (and looks ready to play in Monday’s rematch).

The Hornets-Cavs matchup arrives as the first game in a Peacock NBA Monday doubleheader on December 22, with reigning NBA champs the Oklahoma City Thunder hosting the Memphis Grizzlies in the late game at 9:30 p.m. ET — a contest that’s also exclusive to Peacock. All season long, the NBA on NBC is presenting streaming-exclusive NBA matchups on Peacock NBA Monday, plus weekly NBA doubleheader games across NBC and Peacock on Coast 2 Coast Tuesday.
