The Miami Heat reportedly are among the teams that have interest in Sacramento Kings guard Keon Ellis in a potential trade.

Ellis, 25, is in his fourth season in the NBA and has carved out a nice rotation role with the Kings in recent seasons.

“Beyond the [Los Angeles] Lakers, teams like the [New York] Knicks, [Orlando] Magic, Heat and [Portland] Trail Blazers have interest in Ellis,” Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney wrote. “Others are, and will be, involved, and that’s where the price of second-round picks could be pushed to a first-rounder.”

Ellis is in the final season of his contract, and he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. So, even if the Heat made a deal for the young guard, they’d only be guaranteed to have him for the rest of the 2025-26 season, though they could look to ink him to a longer deal.

This season, Ellis has appeared in 27 games for the Kings, making two starts. He’s only playing 17.0 minutes per game and averaging 5.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Despite generally being a strong shooter, Ellis has seen his efficiency take a hit in the 2025-26 campaign, as he’s shooting just 38.5 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from 3.

Last season, his value was on full display, as he averaged 8.3 points per game on 48.9 percent shooting from the field and 43.3 percent shooting from deep while playing a key role. Shooting aside, he is also known as a pesky defender.

One NBA general manager doesn’t believe that Ellis will fetch a first-round pick in a trade, even if that’s what the Kings ask for in return.

“It is hard to imagine giving up a first-rounder for him and I don’t think that’s where it will land,” the GM told Heavy.com. “But they’re right to keep asking for it and maybe someone bites at the end.”

Ellis could be an option for Miami to improve its guard rotation around guys like Tyler Herro, Davion Mitchell and Norman Powell this season. While Ellis isn’t a star player that would majorly impact Miami’s chances of making the NBA Finals, he is a young piece that could develop into a staple in head coach Erik Spoelstra’s rotation.

The Kings may end up selling at the trade deadline, as they are just 7-22 overall this season and hold the No. 14 spot in the Western Conference.

The Heat are the No. 8 seed in the East, as they’ve lost eight of their last 10 games, sending them tumbling down the standings. It’ll be interesting to see if Miami makes a move so it can push for a top-six spot in the conference.
