The Washington Wizards have all eyes on them as the NBA trade deadline slowly approaches.
It’s no secret that the Wizards have several holes on the roster that need to be addressed, but arguably no hole is bigger than the glaring weakness in the team’s backcourt.
The harsh reality is that since the departure of John Wall, the Wizards haven’t been able to find an answer at point guard over the course of the last few years.
Between names like Russell Westbrook, Tyus Jones and even Jordan Poole, Washington has taken countless swings just to come up empty handed.
Now, with the struggles of sophomore Bub Carrington suggesting that the Wizards may still not have an answer for their biggest issue, it only adds to the buzz that Washington could be gearing up towards a big move ahead of the trade deadline in February.
Washington has been linked to players like Darius Garland, LaMelo Ball and even Domontas Sabonis as the Wizards continue to seek out a playmaker who can run the offense.
However, the possibility that the Wizards are able to strike a deal for any of the above mentioned names is slim to none.
Despite that, Washington could have an ideal trade candidate staring them in the face and its the name that’s constantly in rumors but being overlooked by the fanbase.
Wizards should trade for Coby White
Coby White has been rumored to be a name on the trade market that not only several teams are interested in, but that the Chicago Bulls are willing to part ways with.
The North Carolina product is only 25-years-old and he’s in the midst of a career-year, averaging 21.2 points, 5.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds, while shooting 44.2% from field goal range and 29.8% from beyond the arc.
White has proven to be a dynamic playmaker and with his offensive upside, he could be the perfect player to slot into the Wizards starting point guard position.
The former No. 7 overall pick has been in the league for seven seasons and even with that, he still finds himself aligning with the Wizards rebuilding time frame.
The versatile guard could be a major boost for the development of Alex Sarr in the frontcourt and with White and emerging star Kyshawn George manning the ball handling duties for the Wizards, head coach Brian Keefe would have plenty of offensive firepower to run his system.
