The team announced that Whitmore’s deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder will keep him out indefinitely. The team’s physicians examined him more closely, performed tests, and discovered a blood clot that led to the diagnosis after he missed a few games due to a hurting shoulder. Whitmore had missed the previous six games, the last two of which were especially caused by right shoulder pain. A more thorough examination revealed that Whitmore had DVT.

He joined the Wizards via trade in an increased opportunity and had started working closely with coach Brian Keefe in recent weeks as part of his development plan…”The official team also announced the same on X. The announcement read: “G/F Cam Whitmore has been diagnosed with upper-extremity deep vein thrombosis. Whitmore was evaluated after missing the previous two games with right shoulder soreness. Whitmore is expected to be sidelined indefinitely. His progress and recovery will be monitored, and his status will be updated as appropriate..”Whitmore is the third NBA player to miss time due to deep vein thrombosis in the past 12 months, albeit there is no estimated time of return. Then-Bucks star Damian Lillard missed the last month of the previous season due to deep vein thrombosis in his calf, and Spurs standout Victor Wembanyama missed the second half of the 2024–25 season due to the same condition.NBA players are increasingly experiencing DVT, which can result in blood clots in the veins of the arms or legs. Given that Whitmore recently turned 21 and Washington appeared willing to give him a long leash as a rebuilding team, there was a chance that this off-season’s change of scenery would be quite advantageous for him.In the third year of his rookie contract, Whitmore is earning $3.5 million this season.
