The Minnesota Timberwolves have been a big candidate to trade for a point guard all season.

Essentially from the moment they benched Mike Conley, it was clear the Wolves didn’t think they had the point guard on the roster to lead them to the promised land.

Ja Morant would certainly come with concerns in a trade from the Memphis Grizzlies, but he also has immense talent.

The Sporting News’ Stephen Noh sees the Timberwolves as one of four possible teams that could end up with Morant. The other three? The Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans or Miami Heat.

Minnesota would certainly be the most direct chance at a title.

“The Wolves have also performed due diligence on Morant, per Scotto,” Noh writes. “Mike Conley has rapidly declined and Rob Dillingham hasn’t looked ready for big minutes. Minnesota badly needs better point guard play and could take a swing at one of the distressed assets out there.”

It’s really all about what a given team thinks about Morant. Is he positioned to improve his behavior in a better situation? Or is he a bit of a lost cause?

Minnesota might have to take that chance. The Wolves probably aren’t winning a championship as currently constructed. But if they add Morant? Maybe there’s a chance.
