The Golden State Warriors have not looked the part of an NBA Finals contender so far this season and recent drama between head coach Steve Kerr and longtime star Draymond Green have taken center stage.
After a heated moment between the two during the Warriors’ game against the Orlando Magic, Green decided to walk off the court, leave the team, and head into the locker room. That has led to some rumblings about his future with Golden State.
Green has been a key fixture for the Warriors since he was drafted with the No. 35 overall pick in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft. He has continued to be an elite defender and a key leader for the franchise. However, could there be a chance that Golden State would consider moving on from him?
That has become a key point of speculation throughout NBA circles.
With that being said, an interesting trade idea has been suggested by longtime NBA analyst Bill Simmons.
Recently, Simmons suggested a trade between the Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers that would see Green get sent to L.A. in exchange for Rui Hachimura and another contract. He also suggested a deal between Golden State and the Sacramento Kings that would involve Domantas Sabonis returning to the Warriors.
“I wonder if there was a Rui Hachimura and a contract for Draymond,” Simmons said. “Let’s just mix this up and go in a different direction. Or with a Sabonis sitting out there for the Kings. Could that be a Draymond, Kuminga, and picks and let’s just try to get a guy.”
Over the years, Green has had a great friendship with LeBron James. That could be of interest for the Lakers if Golden State was to make Green available.
So far this season, the 35-year-old forward has remained productive. In 24 games played, Green has averaged 8.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 0.9 steals per game. He could make a major impact for whoever traded for him.
More than likely, Green will simply stick around with the Warriors. Patching things up with Kerr should not be a very difficult think to do.
However, if the season continues to get worse, Golden State might just consider the idea of trading Green away.
