Dallas Mavericks star forward Anthony Davis has already spent a good chunk of time on the sideline this season, and now he’ll be back there for a bit.

After suffering an apparent groin injury during Dallas’ 126-116 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day, Davis is expected to miss a few games with a groin strain, per ESPN.
Davis will be evaluated daily moving forward and the Mavs will likely employ a cautious approach when it comes to his return to action. In other words, don’t expect the team to rush him back.
Davis already missed 14 games earlier this season due to a left calf strain. On the season, he has appeared in just 16 games for Dallas. But, he’s been productive when he’s been out on the floor as he has posted averages of 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per performance.

As a team, Dallas has been much better when Davis is out on the floor. The Mavericks are 8-8 when Davis suits up this season and just 4-12 when he’s on the sideline. The Mavs will try to improve upon that latter mark in their coming games.
Davis has been the focus of much trade speculation in recent weeks, as the Mavs could consider moving him for the right offer. Given its severity, or lack thereof, this latest injury to Davis shouldn’t impact any outside interest that teams have in him.
Any team interested in acquiring Davis already knows that he’s prone to getting banged up, and that he’s probably going to miss some time here and there. But since he won’t be sidelined for an extended time with the groin strain, it probably won’t scare any teams away.
The NBA trade deadline is set for Feb. 5 this season. Davis remains a major name to keep an eye on between now and then.
