Yes, it’s December 27, but you’re still hungover from that boozy Knicksmas victory.

Here’s a bunch of quotes I missed yesterday cause of the punch.

On challenging Tyler Kolek at halftime in Minnesota:

“When we were in Minnesota at halftime, [Kolek] was 3-for-10 from the floor. And I went at him in front of the whole group. And I can’t say everything I said, but in a nutshell it was: You’ve taken 10 shots, the second most on this team and you only made three. And three of those shots were airballs. And if you’re going to take that many shots, you got to make some.”

On Kolek’s response to the Wolves loss and his toughness:

“Then he went 6-for-12 in the second half. He walks by me and looks me in the eye and goes, ‘I made shots.’ And he walked off. And it made me smile inside but I was like, ‘You little mothaf—-r.’ But that’s the type of toughness, cockiness, nastiness, whatever you want to call it, that he’s got to show.”

On Kolek’s mentality and edge:

“He’s over the top with his toughness. When we were in Minnesota at halftime, he was 3-for-10 from the floor. I went at him in front of the whole group, and I can’t say everything that I said, but in a nutshell I said, ‘You’ve taken 10 shots, the second most on this team, and you only made three, and three or four of those shots were air balls. If you’re going to take that many shots, you’ve got to make some.’ So he goes 6-for-12 in the second half, he’s got 11 rebounds for the game and eight assists. I was hot. He walks by me and he looks me in my eye and he goes, ‘I made shots.’ And he walked off. Made me smile inside, like, ‘You little …’”

On being called out by Mike Brown after the Wolves loss and responding on Christmas:

“I’m gonna knock that (expletive) down.”

On being ready when opportunity came earlier this season:

“Rick Brunson came over to me and was like, ‘Get ready.’ And I’m like, ‘Are you talking to me?’ Cause I didn’t play for two weeks.”

On his approach when checking into games:

“Just trying to change the game. When it started 19-to-whatever, I looked at Jordan and I said, ‘Change the game.’ That’s what I always say. Cam Payne actually taught me that last year. Whenever you go in the game, change the game. Do something different and make the game flow differently.”

On his mindset and confidence:

“It kind of reminds me before I was on the team, those fourth quarters they were down, I was watching those games with Jalen and Donte and all those guys. They just had that fight to them, that toughness to them. It’s showing a little bit on this team.”

On fighting for his role:

“I’m like, ‘What can I do to get myself in the game?’ I’m like, ‘I just got to go out there and be a maniac on defense.’ Just fight my ass off. Because that’s why I got cut from the rotation in the first place.”

On studying film and learning from it:

“There were a couple clips where maybe I wasn’t giving max effort on defense and stuff like that. And (Brown) cut the rotation down and it happened how it happened. And so I was just like, ‘Man, when I go out there, maximum effort, whatever he says, I got to do.’ The offensive stuff, that’ll come. Because people look at me as an offensive player. But in that two-week stretch of Orlando to the NBA Cup, my defense was ahead of my offense. Then after I found my role doing that, everything else kind of falls into place.”

“In college, we talked about approach goals or avoidance goals. Avoidance goals is like, ‘I want to do it, I don’t know if I can.’ Approach goals is, ‘I’m going after it, I’m taking it.’ So now it’s just having that mindset like, ‘These opportunities don’t come around often. And when you get them, you got to take advantage of them.’ If two guys are injured, three guys go out, I can’t be fear-based, I have to be going after it each time or else I’m not going to do what I do.”

On chasing down Donovan Mitchell:

“If he ran and did a regular layup, I wouldn’t have caught up to him. He wanted to do some windmill (expletive).”

On Kolek’s confidence and growth:

“With Tyler, I think it’s one of those things where you either have confidence or you don’t. I think with all the work that he has put in, his confidence has grown in the league. You see people’s confidence in this league get stripped. With Tyler, his confidence is growing. It’s a test to his mental strength, his mental fortitude and the work he puts in.”
