Now that the OGs which includes Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant, are on the latter stages of their NBA careers, the NBA is looking for a new face of the league. There are a lot of players today, with the talent, to become the face of the league. This list includes, Shai Gilgeous Alexander, Victor Wembanyama, Luke Doncic, Jayson Tatum, Jalen Brunson, and maybe even Duke’s Cooper Flagg who could be a superstar someday. The face of the NBA is not something that everyone can achieve with ease. The requirement is simply, a superstar players needs to have the flair, the mentality, the toughness, and somebody who can lead the league to places, like LeBron James has done all these years.

Anthony Edwards has stated many times that he believes he’s the best at everything he does, and that has clearly showed through so far. Competitive standpoint wise, Edwards is right there amongst Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant when it comes to his mentality and obsession with winning. The Wolves beat the Nuggets in the 2024 in Game 7 last season, and that is when the hype started becoming bigger, with many already believing that Ant Man has the best shot at the being the face of the league.

Recently on ESPN’s First Take, a former NBA player and current day NBA analyst believes that Anthony Edwards is just a championship away from becoming the face of the league. Here is what he said.

Former NBA player and ESPN’s NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins dropped a hot take on Anthony Edwards, claiming that he is just an NBA champion and a Finals MVP award away from becoming the face of the league. Perkins said, “I feel like Anthony Edwards is a championship away, Finals MVP away, from us saying he’s the face of the league…his stock will rise through the roof.”

The only problem with this is that Anthony Edwards has previously stated that he has no desire of being the face of the league, and has suggested some other NBA stars could fulfill that role instead of him. However, what we believe is that the league has a lot of parity currently, and there are multiple other stars that Ant Man may need to compete against to take the ultimate throne.

Currently the Timberwolves lost Game 1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, and will try to bounce back in Game 2. Edwards took only 13 shots the other night, and made 5 of his total shots. That is just not going to work as the Timberwolves need Edwards to be highly aggressive to help them win Game 2 and tie the series 1-1.
