UTICA, N.Y. — The third annual Downtown Classic Utica is showcasing high school basketball talent from across New York.
Boys and girls high school basketball teams are competing in 41 games over four and a half days during the holiday break at the Nexus Center. Organizers say the tournament is exceeding expectations.
“It went so well the first year, that the second year we grew a little bit,” said Matt St. Croix, director of the Downtown Classic. “Now here for year 3, our crowds are better than they’ve ever been. We have way more interest. The crowds have been outstanding, we’re exceeding what we’d done last year, and we’re excited to have 2 more days of basketball at the Nexus Center.”
In addition to the Downtown Classic, a youth jamboree is taking place at Mohawk Valley Community College, offering even more basketball excitement in the coming days.
