Jaylen Brown made Celtics history on Sunday night but it wasn’t enough as Boston had their four-game winning streak snapped against the Blazers with a 114-108 defeat.
Brown finished with a game-high 37 points, making him Sunday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.
It was the ninth straight 30-point performance for Brown, tying the franchise record mark also held by Larry Bird. Brown has now hit that mark in 12 of his last 13 games and 20 of his 28 games on the season. He leads the team, averaging 29.8 points per game, a career-high for the star forward.
Brown was efficient yet again on Sunday night, shooting 14-of-23 from the field and 2-of-5 from 3-point range. He also went 7-of-10 at the free throw line and did most of his damage early, scoring 27 of his points in the first half. However, he got little help from his teammates in the setback as no other Boston player scored more than 13 points in the setback.
Brown will have a chance to set a new franchise record on Tuesday night with his 10th straight game with 30 points when the Celtics continue their road trip against the Utah Jazz.
