The Suns got off to a sluggish start, as the teams exchanged leads into the second quarter, but things seemed to change after Booker nailed his first 3 with 3:52 left in the first half and the Suns entered halftime leading 61-54.
Phoenix maintained a lead early in the second half, but again got a spark when Booker drew a technical at the 8:14 mark of the third quarter, after complaining when he was called for a foul. After that, the Suns quickly extended their lead to 75-62, fueled by back-to-back 3-point shots by Royce O’Neale and Gillespie, and cruised from there.
Overall, Phoenix shot 40 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3, going 17 of 40 from distance.
Phoenix was playing without center Mark Williams, who was serving a one-game suspension imposed by the NBA for his role in an altercation with the Pelicans’ Jose Alvarado during the Suns’ win over New Orleans on Dec. 27. Alvarado was suspended for two games. Grayson Allen also missed his eighth straight game as he recovers from a right knee injury.
The Suns conclude their current road trip on Dec. 31 at the Cleveland Cavaliers at 1:30 p.m. MST.
