The Memphis Grizzlies missed an opportunity against the Washington Wizards in a Dec. 28 loss. Now comes a six-game stretch against teams currently above .500.

First up is a game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 30 at FedExForum. This will be the first meeting between the Grizzlies and Sixers this season.

Philadelphia (16-14) is led by Tyrese Maxey, who is averaging 30.7 points per game. Maxey leads the NBA with 39.7 minutes per game and 22.8 shot attempts.

Memphis will hope to counter Maxey’s scoring with its perimeter defender options. Cedric Coward and Jaylen Wells will be the first options against Maxey.

The Grizzlies will be missing some of their other top wing defenders. Vince Williams Jr. (knee) and John Konchar (thumb) remain out with injuries, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will miss his first game of the season due to a right hamstring injury.

Philadelphia could be without one of its biggest pieces. Center Joel Embiid is questionable to play due to a right ankle sprain.

Embiid’s availability will be important to monitor. If he’s out Andre Drummond could start at center. Drummond is averaging 9.6 points and 11.4 rebounds in 14 starts this season.

The Grizzlies will be without centers Zach Edey (ankle) and Brandon Clarke (calf). Jock Landale is questionable to play with a calf injury.

If Landale is unable to go, Jaren Jackson Jr., Santi Aldama and Christian Koloko will play minutes at center. Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo said Landale is “trending towards playing.”

Memphis is 30-27 in all-time meetings against the 76ers.
