OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Entering the second game of their back-to-back against the Sioux Falls Skyforce, TyTy Washington Jr. was converted from a standard G League contract with the San Diego Clippers to a Two-way spot with the Los Angeles Clippers.

He now occupies the spot previously held by RayJ Dennis, who was waived in the same transaction. Whether Dennis will return to San Diego on a standard G League contract is not known yet, but the Clippers do own his G League rights.

Washington Jr. fills the third Two-way spot Los Angeles has, alongside Jordan Miller and Kobe Sanders. The latter two have yet to suit up for San Diego this season, as they’ve been on LAC duties due to injuries and roster inconsistency.

The 24 year-old guard in his stint for the Clippers averaged 19.9 points, 5.8 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals over 36.1 minutes per game through 16 games. He really put his name on the map and essentially forced LA’s hand to sign him after averaging 34 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals per game during the NBA G League Winter Showcase.

“I’m so happy for (TyTy). He’s been killing it down here in the G League. I think we’ve played 15, 16 games or something like that and he’s been a monster in every single one of them,” said Clippers forward Zach Freemantle.

He also noted that Washington Jr.’s hardwork being noticed and recognized is a good thing and that he deserves the call up.

TyTy Washington Jr has been signed to the LA Clippers on a two-way contract. He replaced RayJ Dennis who was subsequently waived. San Diego will be shorthanded tonight against Miami’s G League team — Story later tonight

With all the two-way players with Los Angeles, and no players on assignment (i.e. Yanic Konan Niderhouser), that left San Diego shorthanded against the Skyforce with only eight active players.

Being shorthanded, they ended up losing in a close game against Sioux Falls 101-98. The Clippers fall to 1-3 in the regular season, a stark difference from their 9-5 record during the Tip-off tournament.

Despite the loss, Freemantle had a career-high 32 points, along with 10 rebounds. “I was just trying to do whatever I could to help my team win,” he said. “There was some opportunity for me to score the ball tonight, and I just tried to take advantage of what the game gave me.”

The Clippers will have some time off before having a rematch with the Raptors 905 on January 2. They last played in the first round of the Winter Showcase Cup when the 905 blew them out. This gives San Diego the opportunity for redemption. The game tips off at 2 p.m. pacific.
