The Los Angeles Lakers have gone 2-4 in their last six games. While many attribute their struggles to defensive lapses and Austin Reaves’ injury, head coach JJ Redick highlighted a different issue: the team’s lack of offensive execution.

According to Redick, his group hasn’t been functioning well offensively in recent games; either they aren’t running the plays he is calling, or they are running the plays incorrectly. He mentioned their previous game against the Memphis Grizzlies, where he ran 12 ATOs (After Timeouts), and they incorrectly ran eight of them.

“Just a lot of slippage with execution,” Redick told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin during Sunday’s practice. “You should be able to transfer 30 seconds of time delay from the clipboard to another, so that was kind of frustrating.”

A chaotic offense

The Lakers may be disorganized, but they still managed to put up 128 points against the Grizzlies in their last game, led by 34 points from Luka Doncic and 31 points from 41-year-old LeBron James. Still, their scoring average in their last six games played (108.5 points per game) is significantly lower than their 2025-26 season scoring average (117.2 points per game).

The Lakers also committed 20 turnovers against Memphis and 22 in their loss to the Detroit Pistons. Against the Los Angeles Clippers, they shot just 38 percent from the floor and 16 percent from 3-point distance. In their losses against the Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns, L.A. conceded 24 and 23 points off turnovers, respectively.

Collectively, these were the results of the chaotic offense that Redick had talked about.

“I don’t know, I mean I don’t know what else to do,” he added, saying he’s at a loss as to why his team has been off. “That’s happening so consistently right now. I chalk it up to the holidays.”

Too many random possessions since LeBron’s return

This isn’t the first time Redick has openly complained about his team’s disorganized offense. After their humiliating Christmas Day loss to the Rockets, he complained about his team’s defensive effort but also discussed how the team has been playing outside the system since James returned from a sciatica injury.

“Since we’ve gotten Bron back, we haven’t been as organized offensively. Too many random possessions. That’s on me. It’s those three things: defensive clarity, role clarity and offensive organization,” Redick said.

It’s unclear if Redick was referring to James in his latest rant, but the Lakers need to get over their Holiday mode as soon as possible.

Not only are they slowly slipping in the team standings, but they still have to face the Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets three times each, as well as the New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs and Rockets twice each, later this season. And although they only have the 18th toughest remaining schedule, their remaining opponents have an aggregate winning percentage of .499. And we all know how they struggle against teams with a winning record.
