A non-COVID illness and some rough play knocked Jordan Walsh out of the starting five with the Boston Celtics in recent games. But the Texan wing made a strong case for his reinsertion into the starting lineup after Walsh put up 13 points, as many rebounds for a double-double, 2 assists, and a block while shooting a sizzling 5-of-7 from the floor overall, and an equally hot 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Asked after the Celtics’ 146-115 blowout road win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday (Jan. 3) night if the demotion from starter status motivated his play against Los Angeles, the the University of Arkansas alum said (via CLNS Media), “Yeah, it’s definitely fuel.”

“Obviously, I didn’t start tonight after starting for so long<” said Walsh. “And I feel like (Celtics head coach) Joe (Mazzulla), to me, Joe was challenging me.”

“To come in and try and be the guy that I was a month or wherever ago,” added the Celtics wing. “So I feel like I definitely took that on as a challenge, but at the same time, to me, starting, bench, it doesn’t matter.”

“If I have a chance to come in and make them— you know, an impact— you know, that’s all that matters to me.”
