The first weekend of ACC basketball in Dallas didn’t just bring a blue-blood opponent to Moody Coliseum—it brought NBA scouts, draft implications, and a firsthand reminder of how thin the line is between projection and reality.
For the second straight season, I’ve been granted a full-season media credential to cover Southern Methodist Mustangs basketball, but this year feels different. SMU is officially in its second season in the Atlantic Coast Conference after a decade in the AAC, and with that jump comes a different level of opponent, exposure, and scrutiny. Blue-blood programs like Duke and North Carolina now populate the schedule, bringing not just national attention but NBA eyes along with them.
