The Memphis Grizzlies didn’t have much time to celebrate a thrilling one-point win over the San Antonio Spurs on Jan. 6. A day later, Memphis is in action at FedExForum against the Phoenix Suns.
This will be the second meeting between the Grizzlies and Suns (21-15) this season. Memphis won the first meeting after a game-winning basket from Ja Morant.
Memphis (16-20) has been without Morant during its last two games due to a right calf contusion. He is questionable to play against the Suns.
Vince Williams Jr. (left patellar tendinitis) and Santi Aldama (right ankle soreness) are also questionable. Jaren Jackson Jr. is probable to play because of an illness.
Phoenix looked like a team headed in the wrong direction when it played Memphis earlier this season, but the Suns have played much better basketball since the slow start.
Former Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks has been a major part of the success. He’s averaging 21.2 points and shooting 46.1% from the field. Both are career highs.
Brooks did not play in the first meeting between the Grizzlies and Suns. He has a 6-2 record against Memphis.
Devin Booker and Collin Gillespie have also had strong seasons on the perimeter for the Suns. Booker leads the team with 25.7 points per game, and Gillespie’s making three 3-pointers per game while shooting 41.8% from deep.
Phoenix holds a 62-48 advantage in all-time meetings.
